Moransengo-Tonengo: the merger of two Municipalities
With the publication BU52S2 dated 29/12/2022, Regional Law No. 27 of 27 December 2022 entered into force in which the new Municipality of Moransengo-Tonengo was established through the merger of the Municipalities of Moransengo and Tonengo in the province of Asti.

Landscape.
Moransengo rises in the northwest area of the province of Asti.
The town covers an area of 5.37 km² and has a population of about 200 inhabitants.
It is 37 km from Asti, the provincial capital.
History.
Agricultural center, with the breeding of Piedmontese cattle and rabbits.
Also, important is the marketing of timber and wine production. Freisa d’Asti, Barbera d’Asti and Barbera del Monferrato are the main wines of the area.
Administration.
Food and wine and typical products.
The economy of the town has not undergone major changes and is almost exclusively agricultural.
There are some farms of Piedmontese cattle and rabbits.
Relevant to the economy are also the cutting and the commercialization of timber, both prized and for burning, and the wine-growing: the wines of the territory are Freisa d'Asti, Barbera d'Asti, and Barbera del Monferrato.
To be seen.
The Castle, of ancient origins, stands on a high hill.
The Church of Saints Agata e Vitale and the deconsecrated Church of Saint Grato (privately owned) are also worthy of note.
Curiosity.
The inhabitants of Moransengo, to give greater prestige to their town, are accustomed to calling it the name Principate of Moransengo.

TONENGO
Landscape.
Tonengo rises in the north of Astigiano.
It covers an area of 5.60 km² and has a population of approximately 250 inhabitants.
It is about 38 km from Asti, the provincial capital.
History.
Historians believe that the country may have been founded by the Cimbri.
In 770, it was a fief of Aimone Radicati, count of Cocconato.
Later it passed into the hands of the Marquisate of Monferrato, the lords of Gattinara and Settimo, and the Savoy.

Food and wine and typical products.
Local delicacies include renowned cold cuts, apple, and hazelnut pies.
To be seen.
The parish church of the Immacolata Concezione preserves precious nineteenth-century frescoes.
In the Ottini hamlet, the Church of Saint Michele should also be noted.
Curiosity.
Tonengo was annexed, in 1928, to the Municipality of Cocconato.
It regained autonomy in 1947.
