For several centuries the fiefdom of Ferrere belonged to the Garretti lords who built a first castle there, later half-destroyed and rebuilt higher up: the Castelvecchio so named from its origins.
Today Castelvecchio is home not only to the schools but also to the town hall and the civic library.
