Moncalvo is one of the seven municipalities in the province to participate in the oldest Palio in Italy: the Palio di Asti.
The shield stamped by the golden crown formed by the burnished circle, cordoned at the edges, gemmed, topped with twelve pearls, natural, seven visible, supported by points is the emblem that represents them.
Under the shield, two laurel and oak fronds, green, fruity with gold, decussed at the tip, tied by the tricolor ribbon in national colors. Its link with the festival dates back to ancient times, where several moncalvesi have repeatedly participated in the race, despite some dark periods due to the economic crisis of those times. Moncalvo, with its four victories, is certainly the most noble municipality among the septa that participate in the Palio.
Among the curiosities of his participation it should be remembered that the white - red municipality excels in the “coats”, that is to win for two consecutive years (1988-1989, 1994-1995). In addition to the race, the Aleramic Palio Committee dedicates itself to the historical parade trying to faithfully recreate medieval clothes and equipment.
A considerable commitment which, in 2016, was gratified with the recognition of the “Author's Parchment”, an award that is attributed to the best historical parade of the Palio di Asti. Finally, in the last three years the aleramic flag-waving and music group has returned to participate in the “Paliotto”, the traditional competition between the flag-waving and music groups of the Committees participating in the Palio of Asti.
It is a young and gritty group, with a significant growth margin, which, regardless of the results, was not afraid to participate with more mature and capable groups.
