Friday, October 4, 2019, at Monastero Bormida, the “Panchine narranti” (Narrating benches) were inaugurated, placed beyond the side of the Bormida river, born thanks to the work and imagination of the girls of the Pinky group and the boys of the “S.o.S. on the road” and the CISA Asti Sud Day Center.
The idea, developed by a group of educators from the CISA Consortium, which groups together the 40 municipalities of southern Asti, was to restore some benches placed in a rest area near the Bormida, right in front of the spectacular view of the Romanesque bridge and of the medieval castle.
The boys got busy, they planed, sandpapered, painted the boards of the two benches, and then they wrote about them two very significant sentences for Monastero and for the Valle Bormida.
First is by the writer, teacher, anti-fascist Augusto Monti, born in 1881 right in the old mill of the town, which often described the river in his novel “I Sanssossi”.
Second is from Renzo Fontana, leader and animator of the struggle of the people of the Bormida Valley for the rehabilitation of the river defaced and polluted by the chemical spills of the Acna di Cengio: “The Rebirth can only be done by our heads and by our hands”.
The mayor Gigi Gallareto, who welcomed the boys with the councilors Dino Stanga and Andrea Paroldo, took them to visit the bridge and the castle and offered them a delicious snack, underlined the importance of the CISA project, which in addition to beautify and make our territory more welcoming, it makes us reflect on the fact that we are all arbiters of our destiny and if we commit ourselves with good will and stubbornness we are able to obtain important results.
